![]() However for reasons we won’t get into here, this is not the case. A common misconception is that swords should all be “razor sharp”. Moderately Sharp is close, but may need to be touched up to get the best performance. Possible values could be “Rebated” meaning the edge is intentionally thickened for safety, “Blunt” meaning the edge is fairly thick with little to no taper, ‘Unsharpened” which would taper to the edge but stop short of having any real cutting ability, “Slightly Sharp, Moderately Sharp, Sharp, or Very Sharp” Sharp or Very Sharp are considered good for cutting swords. The “Edge” spec will tell you about how sharp a blade is. This info is provided to give you a good idea of the product being presented, the one you receive may vary from the specific one we took measurements of. Please note: Due to the hand made nature of these items, all specs should be considered as approximates. A very high POB will result in a sword that feels heavier than it actually is and is difficult to wield. In general, a low POB results in good point control well suited to a thrusting blade, while a higher POB adds impact to a cleaving blade. A POB of 3”- 5” usually results in a well balanced sword, but does depend on the type of sword. In practice however, there are many reasons why you may not want this for a particular sword. In theory a sword with a POB of 0” is perfectly balanced. A number of 0” would balance exactly at the guard, while a negative number will have a POB in the hilt itself. It refers to the point on the blade where the sword achieves a perfect balance. stands for Point Of Balance, this is measured in inches from the hilt down the blade. No scratches no dents no rust nothing loose.P.O.B. Posted by Ivan Shishmanov on Apr 18th 2019 After a quick cleaning the blade was is bright and straight. How was this a scratch & dent?!? What an incredible deal. Posted by Jarrad Robertson on Apr 27th 2019 Tsuka is nicely shaped, and Nakago has a geometric Yokote and nice polish. A few small scratches at base of blade which were expected and don’t bother me at all. Everything is fitted nicely and with no rattles. Koshirae and Tsuka are simple, of excellent quality, and pleasing to my eye. Posted by 1st time customer but not the last on Feb 28th 2020 Only think I wish was it had a Hamon, but for the price i cannot complain. Otherwise, the grip, saya, and blade is pretty perfect. The only flaw is just a small blotch about 2-3 mm squared on the blade probably due to mistake in the metal working process. It was basically perfect to the untrained eye. I am new to Japanese swords but I cannot find any flaws.ĭon't about the "scratched and dented" name, it will not be scratched not dented. Well made product!īought from scratch and dent sale. After receiving, cleaning and carefully going over the blade and handle, I have yet to find any blemish. I chose the scratch and dent model just to get a blade for beginning use and felt scratches and dings. It creates an opportunity for me to learn tsukamaki and rewrapping it in a different color ![]() I will have to purchase another handle from RK as this one will not last a week of cutting. The katana I received has a very well made blade, however the Ito is mediocre and the Kashira and end knot is very sloppy. I made this purchase expecting a blemished or slightly bent blade. This is my second purchase from Ronin Katana. Posted by Edward Green Jr on Feb 18th 2023 The Katana itself was silly sharp and overall just a beautiful and solid sword. I couldn't find any scratches or dents on my Katana but there were some light scuffs on the saya and the iron collar under the tsuba was slightly loose so I wouldn't hesitate to order from the sale. Let's get the obvious out of the way first.
